Parentline is there for any parent, any time. Free*, confidential, 24/7. Phoning the helpline gives you the opportunity to talk and to be listened to, to work things out and find solutions to your family problems or to be put in touch with one of our regional parent support groups.
Parentline is a confidential service. We do not pass on information about callers without their agreement, unless there is a risk of significant harm to a child or adult. Sometimes, for reasons of quality control and training, we will listen to calls.
99.4% of calls made to the helpline are answered within 30 seconds. Information materials are sent within 48 hours and complaints are resolved within seven working days.
After ringing the helpline one parent said:
"The person on the phone didn't give me advice, she reflected back what I'd said really clearly. It was like having a picture of my family drawn for me. I could step back and look at it and see what needed to be different. It was very useful."
I would like to thank the person I have talked to when I rang for her support and gentle guidance. It has helped me immensely just having someone to listen and not judge.
Recently parents were asked what they felt about the experience of ringing us:
9 out of 10 rated the calls helpfulness as good or very good.
8 out of 10 felt things had improved because of the call.
Over 85% thought the call helped improve their feelings or mood.
Nearly 100% praised the call takers listening skills.
