As for anonymity, that's in our own hands. Paying monies over is hardly a guarantee against us "pillow talking" about the site. As for me, the only way my ex would find out about this site is if I told her or she perhaps hacked into my email account. Either way, a fee wouldn't prevent a malcontent from causing a problem here.

Some interesting points here from both sides. From my own point of view, now I have discovered and need wiki, I would gladly pay a sub­script­ion to keep using it. However, I would not have joined in the first place if there was a joining fee, probably even if there was a free trial first. The ease of joining (and the welcome I immediately received) made me feel able to start talking to people about what I was going thru

Wiki has undoubtedly saved many lives and Ian should be proud at the difference his efforts have made

I think I am like a lot here I 'stumbled' across Wiki when desperately seeking help,I got hooked and stayed. If there had been a joining fee I would have not have paid, possibly thinking it is a 'commercial site'.
It would be difficult to explain what you are getting for your money ?

I have seen loads of newbie's join the chat room, in various states of distress , I wonder how many would have come to us ( the Wiki Community)had they had to pay up front? especially not being in the best ­frame­ of mind at the time ?.

As for malicious x's joining etc, "If you truly want freedom then you have to put up with a hell of a lot" ( I can't remember who said that ?)again as many have said before me, ther eis little you can do to stop this .
I do worry about any one who logs in under different names etc but as this site grows factions will develope as it human nature and, as always, there will be fallings out in the play ground.

As others have said, don't think a joining fee would work, some peeps only come on to ask one question ... I would pay a donation, but can I pay in instalments? hehe

What about those of us who no longer have access to our accounts to use credit/debit cards, if I paid a joining fee I'd have to send a postal order!

Sorry but I think this is completely incorrect. This place is one of the most balanced repositories of views, information and support you could hope for. And don't forget it was a guy who started it of course (not that it should matter).
