I disagree about the joining fee.
I think that Wiki is great because it is free and anyone can sign up and ask for help, advice or just read the posts without any cost.
There is anonymity on here, which could be compromised if we had to pay a fee by there being a trail to a credit card bill or bank statement.
That said there is nothing stopping anyone donating funds to the site to help Ian run it.

Even £10 a year would count me out. I joined this one cos everyone was supportive & not judgemental. The advice on here & the original idea behind the set up really is priceless (THANK YOU IAN & everyone involved).

Well I'm just coming up to my anniversary on teh site and I don't think I have seen a voluntary pay option anywhere.
Perhaps Ian ought to have a little Paypal link. I would gladly give to help the site going.
I can see what you mean about keeping site free, I'm just aware that are people on here who have several ids so that after thye leave chat they can logon as another just to see what is being said about them. Well that doesn't encourage trust.
Take care
Julian

Jules, I do agree with you running this site must be expensive.A joining fee might be offputting to many people at a time when they need the help most. I am aware that all of us are not in the same financial status . I am sure that those who can afford will willing contribute.I for one is very grateful for finding this site at a time when I could not talk to anyone and believeing that I was the only one going through a divorce, have no objection in supporting wiki financially for its smooth running . Need to add Jules that you were one of the first person I talked to and you would never know how much our virtual friendship helped me,not mentioning with my computor too. THANK YOU. I think there should be a way of donating money anonymously. I know the knowledge I have gained on wikim is priceless and would like to know that the unfortunate others who find themselves in this bumpy road can have the same benefit.
I wonder whether every body knows that Ian not only run the site but also subsides wiki's bash. The one in Lancaster was fully funded by Ian and Amanda and Ian helped with the cost in London that is why we could have a nice time at a fraction of the cost. JUst I am not talking out of turn.

A link would be a good idea for people to donate money to the site if they so wished.

I think there are two separate issues here.
1) a fee to help run the site, which is up to the site managers. Personally, I would favour a donations system rather than a fee, if that's required. But I do like the fact that you can get straight on here and find help.
2) discouraging people from spying on others. Well, from stories I've heard, people who are disturbed enough to go to court and throw money at solicitors just to spite someone else aren't going to be put off by £10 or £20 fee.
3) I am sure the moderators are able to deal with any people who wish to cause aggro.

Erm, I'm sure this site has enough hits on it to justify asking for sponsorship from some companies in return for advertising. It's a popular site, and what to companies want? The more people looking on the site the more their advertisements will be seen. Or maybe I'm missing something, surely it can't be as simple as that?
