Now some of you will automatically object and I just ask that you hear me out.
At the moment anyone can join and that is great. But it has its downsides, too. Anyone can join and if they misbehave or want to 'pretend' to be someone else to find out what they say about them they can.
So if you think your ex is spying on you they can create any userid, change sex and be a 'friend'.
If someone gets abusive they can create a new userid as often as they wish.
It allows the sex of a member to be known as well.
If there is a risk of serious harm to themselves or others then there is a chance that they can be traced.
It doesn't have to be much perhaps a joining fee of £10 even £20. It would help Ian finance the website too. It wouldn't have to be a monthly or annual fee as I know Ian wants to keep the advice free. I just feel that the chatrooms is getting a different feel about it recently and tehre are no real powers that can be used to encourage good behaviour.
Let's see 22000 members at £10. £220k!
I wonder what you think?
Julian

sorry but a joining fee would count me out ..if i had a spare tenner id have to keep it for emergencies.... helpful tho the site is i cant afford to pay for it...£10 is a small fortune to some of us..paying would not prevent people from lying or being rude....chat rooms, forums and the like are mostly anonymous...set up a paying one if you want ..see how many members you dont get just my opinion

Completely disagree !
Already there are soft changes in the way people are in the chat rooms so an effect/understanding is already taking place.
I only see a handful of regulars in Chat out of the 20k members so you would penalise people for wrong reasons and/or discourage people from joining.

OMG! I think I'll deregister right now since this is such a risky site!!
Seriously though, surely no-one can trace someone else through Wiki unless the member concerned posts information which is far too specific/personal info? There are warnings against that on the Terms & Conditions.
The other side of the coin is, if someone was really trying to Wiki-Stalk, surely £10 or so wouldn't put them off?
Heck, should I stay or should I email the Wiki Team pronto??
Tomorrow's papers-"Mass Exodus from Divorce Website"????

I accept there is a danger that, on rare occasions, where a member asks for advice, their other half can read what they have said and get to know t he adice they have been given. I can only remember this happening once. The result was fireworks - but I don't see how a joining fee would alter that.
I suppose people contribute to the site for different reasons. Some want a shoulder to cry on ; some need re-assurance and support ; some need advice ; others have been willing to share their experience and knowledge with others who have been through the same process.
I can only speak for myself ; I am legally qualified, though no practicioner in divorce. My experience of the divorce process was as a ' client ' and it happened a long time ago. If I can use what knowledge I have to help someone who is getting lost in the maze that we call divorce, well, the world would be a pretty lousy place if we can't help each other out now and again. I don't see myself as some sort of male Marj Proops. I have no financial interest in the advice I give. If anyone asked me to represent them, I would politely decline. As you will see, I have advised quite a lot of people and perhaps , judging by the number of thanks, some people have appreciated the advice.
If you volunteered to work for a charity, you wouldn't be too enthusiastic if they asked to pay for the privelege, would you ?
I think a joining fee would kill the site, quite frankly.

I would br hsppy to pay a joining fee....Ian puts a lot of work into this site and I would be quite happy to pay £10 per year. Friendsreunited charge, why shouldnt we.....maybe have say 3 weeks trial then if peeps want to join they will.
This site has been such a help to me...3 weeks down the road if I had to pay a measly £10 i would do it. It may be whay keeps the site running....dont be so mean all of you.

My s2b ex actually joined this site a couple of weeks before me but didn't use it. in fact he was on last may and then he was on last week. I know he knows i'm on here and no doubt checking up on me and what i'm doing but hey ho i'm not breaking any laws and if he gets a kick out of seeing 'my feelings' on my blog well that's his problem I have nothing to hide. I'm happy to pay say an exclusive member fee for regulars or maybe a fee paying private chat room as i have been quiet on here since i found my s2bx had joined the site.
