What I have noticed over the last few months is that the chat room is becoming a fun and vibrant place; with jokes and banter but when a newbie comes into chat they are being left out when maybe they are trying to ask a serious question.

If we had a few members who where buddies ( a bit like the mods ) who where responsible for looking after the newbie’s and showing them around the site and introducing them to other members who could help them.? I would be more than happy to volunteer for this

What we have been trying to do phoenix , chat in the evening is getting busy we are trying to send many into the lounge to have fun chat but some regulars will not go in the lounge.Were trying to free up some space in the lobby for our newbies on site as they are valued just the same as every body else on site .When it's busy in the lobby our newbies do tend to get lost but today is day 3 of trying this out and it is improving daily.

Up until very recently I found the chatroom a very safe and happy place to be-it's helped me loads.

However, whilst in chat I received a pm from someone which I considered to be so offensive I don't really see it as the place it once was. Yes I suppose I could have done something about it, but have chosen to leave well alone because basically I got better things to be worrying about.

I don't have a problem with the banter but I think the system of pms can be abused-sorry I have no idea or solution as to how to address that.

Did you report this user to any of the chat room mods , you can also copy and paste the offensive message to us and we will warn and if need be ban that person from chat .

no i didn't do any of that and too late now cos message came up to me whilst i was in chat and i wasnt aware that stuff could be copied etc etc.

i've taken the incident as a hard lesson to be learnt but a very worthwhile one

Could there be a newbie room (maybe someone has already said this) but I agree with the others that when I started here it was a bit scary. I only go into chat now and then - but a newbie room would be where joiners could be directed too and more experienced boarders could dip in and out to offer help and advice (which is a real source of support for so many - me included) and the newbies can chat to each other - and see they are not alone?
Also a drop down with common abbreviations (I know this has been mentioned) but in chat I sometimes sit wondering and trying to work things out!!

If you check out the chat help section in the library you will see that Tetleys has kindly added a newbie guide to chat and a list of common abbreviations
