Hi,

I have been going through the divorce process for 4 months - of which over a month it was on hold due to possible reconcilation.

Reconcilation is totally out of the window as i have now finally found out the truth.

My husband has said he will pay me spousal maintenace and said he would give me £1000 to cover me for 2 months (£500 a month). We have no kids (but 4 cats that cost a fourtune to keep!) and i am in the rented house that we both used to occupy so there is the cost that goes with that and my 'living costs'. I am in full time employment but we used to live off a joint bank account. He earns more than twice my salary and is a successful businessman. We have been married 2 years and been together for 7, living together for 5 1/2 years sharing all living costs.

This was all agreed verbally and nothing was written on paper between our soliciotrs as we were trying to avoid any extra costs and just get there with a few bits ourselves.

I would just like to know if i can still hold him to paying me £500 a month and also how long will i have this money for? Till the divorce is over? or can it go beyond? I just need to understand so i can start making a new life for myself and understand my money situation.

Any advice/thoughts welcome.

Your respective ages;

The number of children you have and their ages;

The length of your marriage and any period of pre marriage cohabitation;

Your respective incomes;

Your respective outgoings;

Your assets - both soley held and joint;

Your liabilities.
