starting proceedings 3 Months, 1 Week ago

well I have now made the first step in my divorce. I posted a while back about my situation being in the forces and husband being possesive, controlling, demanding, non trusting. I have paid to come home early to speak to a solicitor to start proceedings on grounds of unreasonable behaviour. I have basically been told my situation is going to be somewhat expensive and messy due to both myself and hopefully soon ex husband being in the forces. I have one question I added him onto the deeds of my house in april and been married just one year gone july and I have been told that it does not matter how long/short he has been on my deeds he still will be awarded a 50 per cent split of my property up north which he has never paid towards or has been used as a marital home as married quarter provided. I am stressed out already and not looking forward to the cost of freedom. Having to get valuations on my house as he wants to take that away from me too. Don't know where to turn at the moment!!!!

crossmag,
I cannot see why you both being in the forces should make any difference to your situation after such a short marriage. I would be concerned that if you had this advice from a solicitor the fear is that they would make it messy and expensive ... not that it need be. Are you sure that is what they said? It is easy when you are stressed out to misinterprete what you are being told ... It is nonsense to suggest he is entitled to a 50% share of your property after such a short time. He should take from the marriage precisely what he put in. You would have no claim on his pension nor he on yours. It seems to me that you need a sensible second legal opinion - and fast. I would strongly advise you to call the wiki lawyers for a free half hour. They are definitely people whose views I would trust.
