First time on this site, just tried out the old calculator, all seemed ok until answers.
me - married for 18yrs before wife upped and left leaving me with our three boys, the boys spend most nights with me with the youngest having two nights a week with mum.

The DC split our assets 60% 40% in my favour due to kids I guess, but at the bottom of calculation it stated that I would need to pay wife £325/month maintenence - WHY? surely this cant be right? she moves out has flat I have kids and all the expense and have to pay for the privalge explain please

Assest - we have house in joint names value 280,000 ish - mortgage endowment 50k (i have been paying last 3yrs)

Ive got car worth 3k i guess

Liabilities
me none I guess some credit card debt but under 2k
her not sure but would guess credit card 2k also

I enterered all above in calculator

it suggested 40% 60% split in my favour but then added that I would pay her maintenence? - dont understand

My thinkings were that she was due half the house less out standing mortgage less child support which she should pay to me - So i was may be thinking 60-80k, but can she force me to sell house.
Neither of us have new partners

i saw my solicitor a week ago. made up some likely outcomes as a result and posted them to my wife to form the basis of some discussion and to put some reality on the shat has happened to us. now she wants the whole thing on hold. which is good. has all been moving too fast. life moves in strange ways!
