Hi,
how do I get my 'husband' to surrender any rights given to him previously for shared access to my accounts? The bank tells me he needs to sign that he doesn't want access any more and 'he' seems to think that my account is great to have because he liberally feeds from it. Any suggestions, I am getting very desperate. Moving the account is no option as I understand he can just drive the accounts into overdraft and I am liable.

Freeze the account right NOW !!
neither of u can access it but it stops him incurring more debt. You are liable for joint debts however I was told that as my bank did not inform me that I could freeze a joint account and I have not used the account since we separated I only incur the charges to the point of split.
Go out now and do it or phone up then write a letter and keep a copy. You can set up an online account in mins move all bills etc within ten days and inform each company what ur doin.

Hi, thank you for your advice. I spoke to the bank, they are not doing anything. I pleaded, I cried - nothing. It seems to be that I have no rights whatsoever. I am at my wits end really. I cannot afford a solictor to write to 'him'. He just willfully moves my money from one place to another. He has about £ 200 income from his father, his business is going down tha pan, he expects me to pay for all and everything. If I don't comply - I get hit.

The house is in my name, not his, but he has put money in when it was bought. I have only been married 6 years and it has been one hell. He comes home when he sees fit, anything he doesn't want me to see goes into his boot. He had debts before I married him, I didn't know about it.
In other words he is an aboslute S * * T. I wish someone would 'take him off my hands'.

I'm not sure how much advice I can give, but I've got a couple of suggestions anyway...

without knowing how your finances run - how about going to the bank (or a different bank) and setting up a new account. get your employers to put salary into that new account (very easily done) and then you can transfer whatever you have to into the original account.

it will give you some more control over your own money, and if he keeps taking funds out, if they dwindle to nothing, the bank will soon take note.

I find it very strange that your bank are willing to do nothing - how about making an appointment to speak to the manager and explain the situation?

It could be that you are not a priamry account holder. Some banks operate this principle. I had the same problem with nationwide and natwest. Nationwide was easy to sort. Natwest I have never sorted it out. And I am the primary account holder with both. Do as paperback said. Open another account to limit the damages being done. Then set about freezing the other account. You cant close an account that has a negative or positive amount in btw. Hope this helps. C
