Doctoring Bank Statements 3 Months ago
|
|
I am concerned about confidentiality of the documents that I will submit to the court. I assume that all the statements will be given to my ex who can then show them to who ever she likes. I am absolutely certain that her boyfriend will go through my statements with a fine tooth comb. Can I oblierate the account number, sort code and address from the statements?

Kevin - this was and still is a worry for me too - All sorts of useful id details taken to somewhere that we have no control over - possibly left lying around in this or that office or house - is there no other way to "prove" financial information without sending chunks of it about unprotected?

I think that I am going to strike out the address and account numbers because I don't see the relevance. They can always ask to see the originals at the court.

I think in this day and age, its wholly acceptable. I mentioned this to a legal eagle the other day. You can take out numbers in the account number and sort codes, you could take out your address but leave your names. Send a covering letter to the court stating why you feel you have had to do this and that originals will be availabe at the court session. As long as you present whole evidence in court ie: your file, you can verify your paperwork.
I shall be doing just.

I thought about it afterwards and did what was suggested and struct out part of the account number, as they do on internet statements. It can still be cross referred to the Form E but would stop the ex using the information.

I agree this is a worry. It would give my ex details of where I go and on what days. I have just written a letter to the judge explaining this, requesting I can blank out certain details. Awaiting an answer. Amazingly ex hasn't had to give me his bank statements - infact did not give me any documents to accompany Form E. Though has now had to give me wage slips, p60. It really dosn't seem fair.

Yes, I would certainly cross out your bank account number and sort code.
I didn't do that when I submitted my bank accounts to my solicitor and they were sent to my husband.
He then used that information to harass me by setting up direct debits to charities and car/home insurance and all sorts of things.
