How do I go about starting to plan what I need and want out of my settlement? Should I ask for more, because I know some will be taken away or reduced! I really want to express my housing needs and that I'm on a low wage at the moment. My ex has a grt career and has high income, but he still wants 50% of the married home, but he wants to keep his pension funds and his flat!! He has not made any allowances for me to support myself and our two sons aged 15/18 yrs old. Where do I start?

Usual starting poitn for a long marriage is 50% of the assets each. This is skewed by the provisions of Section 25 of the Matrimonial Causes Act, which takes account of all kinds of things like dependant children, health, earnings etc
Good start is this:
Your / his nett income (After Tax, NI and Pension) Youe / his ages Length of Marriage Value of house and outstanding mortgage Size of house (No of bedrooms) Age and sex of children (is 18yo in full time education?) Any other assets over £500 Any debts (Are they marital or personal?) Yours / His pension CETV (Cash Equivalent Transfer Value)
With this information, you can either put it in the free Wikivorce Calculator, or post it on the site and see if someone could give you an idea of what would be a fair settlement.
