I think this is just another SHOCKING story, but one that is repeated time and time again on wiki. It is only because we are becoming more informed that we stand up to these 'legal experts'!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is this story just not proof that solicitors DO NOT CARE they just want their money and power. and will disregard ANYTHING to get it.

I am sure there is going to be a story about 'illegal practice' from a solicitor on here soon from ME too.

If you had not stood up for yourself and TOLD THEM WHAT YOU WANTED you would have been divorced and completely broke!!

Sorry to hear of your experience with a solicitor but mine is the opposite.

Without my solicitor I would be an emotional wreck! My x is self repping and takes ever opportunity to slander, liabel, lie, cheat etc as his aim is just to hurt me.

My solicitor reads through all the emotion, gives me the facts and what they mean, gives me the options I have as well as the consequences of any response I might want to make. Whilst an expense I would prefer not to have it is a necessity to me and I admire him for his ability to stay calm and controlled when my x is swearing at him!

A good solitior is worth their weight in gold, a bad one will cost you their wieght in gold.

Many members on this site were encouraged and coerced into long and protracted legal battles by solisitors some costing 60k plus, others have found their solicitors helpfull suportive and have saved them money.


In any proffestion you find the good the bad and the ugly (do you remember Prince Charles Counsel )

There was a thread started a while back 'advice on choosing a solicitor' basically the thing to look out for and to take note of.

The trouble is you do not know if your solicitor is a good one. There does not seem to be a recommendation list, or indeed, a 'stay away' from list anywhere.

No-one monitors them, you cannot go online, choose a solicitor and then read the 'ratings'.

Unfortunately even when they make silly mistakes and dreadful decisions you have no recourse whatsoever. They do not deduct your bill if they have cocked up. There will always be some excuse.

I'd just like to tell everyone that we had about £140,000 of equity in the house and we spent between us about £42,000 on solicitors fees. If one of us hadn't sacked their solicitor it would have been nearer to £60,000.

My friend has a job that pays her £12,000 and year and her ex isn't working. Months go by before their solicitors write to each other and they have constructed the fairest deal/split you could possibly imagine.
