children nearing 18 years old 1 Month, 1 Week ago

Have had little success with solicitors in getting anywhere with my divorce.
From the info gathered on this site , I should be o.k. as i think split will be 70/30 on house(wikki calculator}on top of which there are a couple of pensions. I have 2 children aged 14 and 17 and we now have returned to .m.h.with help of occupation order. Ex is ignoring legal paperwork and solicitor says there is no urgency. However with eldest reaching 18 years of age is 11 months should I persue ancillary relief sooner rather than later or will it not make a difference to outcome in 12 months time when kids will be 15 and 18.

Hi there
Firstly pls do not rely on the calculator as writted in stone.
Secondly, the impact of your 17/18yo age on the proceedings will depend on his or her plans. If remaining in FT education and therefore requiring support, there is no reason attaining majority would have any impact. If however he or she is working, this would make a minor difference. Overall though, courts are wise to the fact that parents now support children into their 20s and dont have an automatic cut off age for consideration.

thanks for your reply. understand calculator is a guide only, but solicitors do not want to give any estimates until my divorce is final. in fact, solicitors do not seem to give any advice at all - thanks to wikki because information is invaluable.
my 17 year old will hopefully be going to uni when he is 18 for a 4 year course - any other members had any experience with staying in mh during this period.
thanks again.
