Grandparents Taking Kids Abroad 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago
|
|
Hi everyone - my parents want to take my son on holiday abroad but are worried about being stopped at Passport Control.
My ex does not see his son (ex's choice) and gaining written permission for this would be impossible. Does anyone know the legal position? They are in their 70s and I would hate for them to be hassled in any way by officials.

I know that a parent can take a child on holiday, out of the country for up to 28 days without permission of the other parent. Although it would advisable to inform him of your intentions.
Not sure about grandparents, but if it is with your permission then I dont see a problem, no doubt Fiona, or DL will be able to clarify that for you.

My 2 are going away next summer with their grandparents (his parents).I will not be seeking his permission as he has no contact with his kids anyway and even if he did i would see it as a spiteful act of stopping the children doing something they really wanted to do if he said no.
I shall be writing a letter for his parents to carry should they get stopped and asked questions regarding whom are these children not that i think there will be as they all have the same surname. My niece and nephew were questioned when we got back off holiday last year at passport control as their surname was diff to all of ours as my sis has remarried but least we knew they were acting in the best interest of the children.
