No experience of this - sorry. But I think you may need to tell us a little more so those who do have some experience of this area can help you.
Length of marriage Children? Where married Any assets in UK Any assets in US
I assume when you say you were deported - you mean from the US? What were the grounds?

Here if you have been separated for 2 years you can get a no fault divorce provided you both agree. So it looks like in either country you would be OK. You don't have to go to court here - not sure if you do there - just send in the paperwork, pay the court fee and that's it - well decree nisi anyway. You have to wait 6 weeks before you can apply for the absolute - and longer of you have a financial mess to sort out - but it sounds like you don't. You can DIY this sort of simple divorce - but not sure if the cross continent aspect would make it complicated - am sure some else would know.

If there are no finances to fight over, then you could probably deal with this through the mail, maybe have a preliminary (usually free) meeting with a solicitor. (If unsure, maybe google one in NC for advice)... and just maybe they'll deal with you via e-mail?
Failing that, possibly the American Embassy could advise? There are sometimes people on this board who ask questions about international marriage law, and I see little response.... simply because we just don't know! However, there are specialist lawyers, (maybe get info from an immigration specialist lawyer?0 or start with your local Citizens Advice Bureau.

I think it depends which country you reside in - can you petition under your local law? Sorry, not sure if you now live in UK or not. If you want to contest your husband's petition it can get expensive and you will need a specialist lawyer, perhaps google it as someone suggested. You won't be able to petition in the US yourself if you are not resident there ( I am not a lawyer but had similar complications with procedures). But you do need some good advice. Good luck
