Hi, i dont know where to start really, there has been so much anger from my stbx already, I dread to think what he has left he can possibly do. He told me last week that he has given up his job to do a full time uni course without any consideration to how he will pay the bills or mortgage, or indeed how he will support his 2 children. Im at a complete loss as to what I can do? or if this means he will not have to pay maintainance, I posted something similar asking if I could get him out of the house and it seams he can stay there rent and bill free because he is a student, he is in effect robbing my children and myself of any hope of a debt free life , please help x

I really don't know what you can do, but I feel for you.
He can't be a student for ever - who is going to pay his fees? And once he is earning again, you and your children will have a claim to his money.

In the meantime, I think its intolerable to have him under your roof, but not sure what your rights are.

I would suggest you contact your local council re: council tax as I don't think you should be liable for his share, and check what benefits you are en­title­d to nationally. The Citizen's Advice Burean may be able to help here.

I hope others will have more practical suggestions and advice. Things can only get better!

I think you will find that whose ever name in on the council tax bill is the one who is liable for the full amount.

Not sure either how much I can help here but will make some suggestions
I believe you can be legally separated and still live in the same house ( some couples do it for financial reasons ) After that I believe you will be en­title­d to claim benefits for yourself and your children if you need to.
I am sure I remember my sister was able to claim wftc once they were legally separated ( even though he would not leave the house!)
