Confusion over "shared residency" child maintenanc 3 Months, 1 Week ago
|
|
Both my husband and I have the children the same number of nights a week in our separate dwellings, as we decided this is in their best interest. I am confused though about child maintenance payments. On the CSA website, it talked about a "resident" and "non-resident" parent, but when the children are in both residences equally, who pays who?

I would say you pay him x% of your income (depending of amount of children) divided by 2 and vice versa.

Whichever parent claims the child benefit is the resident parent.CSA would do the following reductions for 175 nights or more spent with the NRP half and then reduce it again by a further £7 a week.

Thanks for the info. As of now, the child benefit is going into a joint account as well!

Well done for what seems like an excellent and amicable arrangement. So why should you involve the CSA at all? All they will do is divert resources from one resident parent to the other and cause tension between you to the detriment of your children.

Thanks for the compliments - it doesn't feel amicable sometimes! I guess I am more confused if child maintenance applies to us at all. I do wish to avoid going through CSA if possible!
