Why CSA if tax benefits are for children?? 2 Months, 4 Weeks ago

I am disabled and separating. It is assumed wife gets home and kids. But I am now told CSA must be involved if PWC is on benefits. I thought income support was replaced by Tax credits (for all kids) - so what is reason for CSA? If we are not working?

Income support has not been replaced by child tax credits , the PWC has no choice until 27th Oct 08 but to use the CSA if they are on income support or job seekers allowence , even if the NRP is on a benefit the norm is they are assesed at £5 p/w.

Actually,I am informed that government is shifting from Income support to tax credits for all new claimants. Unless you already get IS - you cannot claim much for children as TC is same amount. This applies to any supplements on other benefits that involve children. Just seems an awful waste of time and money for CSA paperwork. Regardless of what anyone thinks of CSA. I imagine things change after oct 28???

I have a dispute with the DWP going back to last year. I was only out of work for about 4 weeks but the pressure to report the non resident parent to the CSA was very intense. The upshot was that they said that I should claim IS if I wanted to claim anything for the kids. But when I got paid there was no payment for the kids. When I appealed I was told thst there was no child element on IS, only tax credits. So was was I told to claim IS and why does the CSA have to be involved? The DWP wanted to recover JSA from my ex but then there would have been nothing to pay me. Seems like a tax on seperated couples to me.

The CSA could'nt organise a p up in a brewery why i would advise against using the CSA , the CSA are now getting ready to be taken over by Cmec i think the actual yr for them taking over properly is either 2011 or 2013 not much help for those that have already had to use the dreaded CSA, but again things will be changing from the 28th Oct a PWC on benefits will be allowed to keep £20 p/w instead of the current £10. I do know that when i claimed income support it was just for myself and i then got the child tax credits for my children paid weekly.

Seems like an costly, time consuming process to gain 5 pounds. Which I am told can be claimed back anyway if you are on long term benefits. It is then deducted from PWC benefits. If they get it. ????
