Does new man affect Ex's tax credit if he stays 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
|

Hi Everyone,
This may have been covered wlse where so I apologise if so. Right does anyone know how my Ex's new partner affects her tax credits if he stays over in "our" house for a said number of nights whilst not contributing to house etc. We are seperated but the house is still in joint names until our mortgage runs out, then its time to decide on the property. My Ex and I are very amicable. I pay her £500 pm and she pays the mortgage and bills using her £600pm tax credit which was dished out on the strength of 1 phone call and the information she gave them, it was that easy to claim???? So she has been shipping the new guy in, some times staying on a Wenesday, Saturday, so at the moment its no more than 3 nights a week. I have looked elsewhere on line to seek the clarifcation on this issue but with no definitive answer. This may sound harsh on my part, but I actually have been forced to move out on the threat of her going with the children if I didnt. So to keep them in their enviroment they are used to etc I made the hardest decision of my life.
Thanks for any help given
Regards Graham

As he is only staying for a couple of nights per week i would not class this as co habitation and for the fact he does not contribute to the household bills.
Therefore i would say yes she should still be claiming tax credits as a single applicant.

That is an aweful lot of tax credits. Does it really go that high, I guess that it does. It took 5 months to sort my tax credits out.

Hi Elvis and welcome to Wiki.
I've been trying to find out how these are worked out. We as a family got £41.50 a month working tax credit. I was kicked out and her partner moved in straight away. He earns half what I do and my wife earns the same as she did before. But she now get £770 a month working tax credit. So financially she's done bloody well for her self as she also gets 39% of my salary as well. How do the tax office allow this to happen!!!!
Anyone know the workings?

I to could'nt see how they gave out so much, its to do with being self employed as a beauty therapist, so her tax returns compared to our finances are very small. All I saw it as, was the green light to not have to make 18 years together, 12 of those married actually worth saving on the grounds of a fling, I guess I am old fashioned???
So at what point would there be a possible reduction in her payments please?

Is that £770 both Child Tax credits and Working Tax credits?
