It took 108 days from start to finish, my petition was lodged on 03 March 2008, Decree Nisi on 06 May 2008 and the Absolute on 18 June 2008. Cry Freeeeeeeeeeedom!

Not really, I felt sad getting the Absolute. Seeing 28 years of marriage dissolved by a sheet of A4 paper with a court stamp on it. Not much to show really.

 That sadness has passed now and once again I'm looking forwards and not backwards anymore. There is so much I want to do again that I wouldn't have done had I still been married as I would have put my own needs to one side.

If you're thinking of doing your own divorce just to save money then I'd suggest you think again.

You should be aware that the divorce ultimately need not cost you anything. You can recover your costs from either the respondent or co-respondent or both. In my own case I have just received my costs from my stbx's new partner much to their annoyance. I asked and I got.

You also need to appreciate that the forms need to be filled in with some "legalese", so if you find form filling difficult this may not be for you. Fortunately, I'm used to form filling as it comes with my profession.

Been married for 28 years been with my soon 2bx for 31 years, have 2 fantastic kids. Just before Christmas 2007 discovered my soon 2bx was having an affair. Tried to reconcile but she not interested so threw her out.

As they say every cloud has a silver lining. Although tough at first now 7 months on I feel happier on all levels and more importantly so do the children. Its
