Yesterday was an epic day for me. My marriage fell apart about 3 and a half years ago, when my then wife decided she wanted a 'new' life. At the time my eldest was 15, and coming up to GCSEs. One of my biggest worries was what the impact of the breakdown of the relationship would do to my children, both in the short and the long term. I would be lying if I were to say they were completely unaffected, particularly as my ex-wife and myself had completely opposing views on parenting children through their teens.
However, despite all, my son got his A-level results yesterday, and secured his first choice place at university in Manchester, and starts in a few weeks.
I cannot express how much relief and pride this has brought me, and just wanted to share the thought with others, further back in this rotten process, that life really does get better. Stand by what you believe in. Take care,
Mike

Congratulations to your son for getting such good results. He'll enjoy Manchester, it's a great place for student life. Costs bit though Dad, as Pete so kindly points out in his unique way! Well done Dad for having a brilliant son. He made a good choice when he picked you! It's worth remembering that research shows that with the right kind of support from even just one parent, children need not suffer detrimental effects of divorce. I think this supports that evidence. Mike Many congratulations to your boy. You are a great Dad and he is very lucky to have you. Like you I worried about the effect of divorce on my children. But they are all three doing very well and I am extremely proud of them Soon to be two out of the three at uni ... and if I can sort it, I may even be going myself next year Hadenoughnow |
