Dad to the rescuePosted by downbutnotout in money and finances, debt and bankruptcy |
Well today my Dad is coming to my rescue by paying off my solicitors bill to stop them from repossessing my house. To be frank i'm a bit embarrased that at the age of 40 I had to ask him for help.
This saga with my solicitor has been running for around a year and a half now. It began back in Dec 2005 when I approached them to help me with my divorce. To cut a long story short (you can read the detail in my older blog entries) they overcharged me for the work they did. I tried to dispute the charges and attempted to negotiate a lower bill. But they just refused to discuss it with me and proceeded to take me to court over the bill.
The sharp ones amongst you will be able to guess why they took this approach. Of course! They were then able to earn more fees from me by running up costs in this new court case. Despite many numerous attempts by me to negotiate a payment schedule they just closed their ears, put their heads down and focussed on running up more legal costs. Plus of course as solicitors they new exactly how to cause me the most grief and so managed to get a charging order placed on my house for a measly 1700 pound bill.
Of course I battled them all the way through the courts but I could not afford to fly to England to attend every stage of the proceedings - so there was little I could do in practise to stop them. In the end they issued formal written threats to apply for an Order of Sale - which is a repossession order on the property.
I am totally broke due to the divorce, and my once perfect credit history is shot to pieces, so for the first time in my adult life I had to ask my mum and dad for a loan (they have given me money and paid for my wedding etc etc but this was the first time I had to go to them for money).

Dont worry Dads are always around no matter what. I had to get mine to bail me out of one rubbish solicitor to go to another who I think is a bit to expensive and charges me for printing my own bill! And now my mortgage was thousands in arrears I had to ask Daddy again or repossessing the FMH, my ex still woldnt help even though he wants the equity, the mortgage company said I cant contact your partner at his new address as he wont tell us he moved and we cant except this from you even though your the joint mortgage holder.mmmmmmmmmmm annoying. Still house for sale and no viewers my ex is saying I wont sell, would sell no one wants to look he cant comprehend that, want me to get a billboard out in the middle of town to beg.Probably. Recon dad to the rescue again before the end of this. My credit rating is also screwed. Once the house is sold for whick I paid the mortgage for the 7 years and still have to give him half im homeless and with a screwed credit file doubt I can get a new mortgage. |
