As this is beginning of the year I would like to set out some things relating to divorce I would like to see happen during 2008.
1) Reform of the child support system so that it delivers and is fair.
2) Education and support for divorcing couples and their families, delivered promptly by multi-disciplinary teams.
3) Reform of the legal aid system to ensure equal access to the law.
4) Clear rules regulating financial settlements.
5) Streamlining of paperwork required by the Courts.
6) Improved enforcement of court orders and penalties actually being applied for non-compliance.
7) Reform of the law so that contact orders are legally binding on both parties.
8) Additional dedicated Family Courts established in Scotland.
9) More user friendly information provided about family law and legal procedures in Scotland.
10) A concession enabling divorced parents to use each other's unused inheritance tax allowance. (Well, pigs might fly!)

Well number 1 on your wish list will hopefully be delievered by 2013.Number 2 on your list if only not only am i battling the ex , i'm taking on the LEA appeal date 31st march has only taken 6 years.All the others hope they come sooner. | |

And free and easily accessible counselling without a year on the waiting list for children who have emerged with a parent from a violent or abusive relationship. Sadie |

And secure destruction of bank details and other documents given to the other party. My ex has all my bank details and she has tried on numerous attempts to access my on line banking. They are watching now as the silly sods locked my account out. This only started once she got my form E and all the finacial details. So now I have the enamy in possesion of my bank account details and I must close that account an open another with all the pain of moving all my DD's etc. Great. If these details were held by an authority and they did the digging that would be better than surendering all my details to god know who and sundry. Chris. | |

I would like to add the hopeful wish that every person divorcing from another person deals with that person in a civilised and calm manner so that there is respect for each others views and wishes and that the courts are not involved. In addition I wish that children are put above the adults own wants and that the children dont witness violence, intimidation and abuse. | |

I had in mind counselling coming under under 2, along with family therapy and financial/debt advice. Education I hope would help to keep things civilised. Also I think more certainty regarding the finances would help people remain calm. Any way it will be interesting which was will come to fruition. | |
