I am absoloutely livid!!!!!!
Just came back from an appointment with my sol....
It now seems that not only has my STBX cheated and lied for months.... he has now developed a gambling problem...
His sol writes " He has lost all the money gambling"..... YEAH RIGHT !!!!!!
So.... all the money that he took when he left me 3 months ago... plus the 1K he earns each week has all of a sudden dwindled to £1,200.00.. oh.. "and he has bills to pay"
Now, considering it takes my STBX all his time to buy a lottery ticket, I am having a little trouble 'believing' this... I think it is far more likely that he has infact 'moved' this money....
Oh.. the depths that one can sink to.......
Lol, I wouldn't mind... but I am asking him only to be 'fair' with me.... I have absolutely no intention of trying to' take him to the cleaners'.... so, why would he take such steps I wonder....
My sol told me 'not to worry too much'.... as he has to provide wage slips, bank statements etc.... and a court will not look kindly upon someone who appears to be 'hiding assets'....
I just don't understand the need for all of this....

Hi Karen, I think your solicitor is right. He can't just claim to have gambled the money away. My solicitor says that it's usually clear to the court if anyone is hiding money and they come down hard on it. So I'm sure he'll get his come-uppance in the end. Best wishes, Sadie |

Read somewhere (think it may have been on this site) that when it comes to anciliary relief they would take into account that someone had been reckless with the assets and gambled them away, so this deception could work against him. Not surprised you are livid. Shelia |

My Sol says that courts will be on my side due to Xs addiction, they frown on giving people more access to feed a habit that may possibly kill them, and as Sadie says they frown on Xs who Blatantly lie. lets hope we both walk out of court laughing out bottoms off  |

Thankyou all for your comments.... Yes... I realise that my STBX is being a complete idiot.... I wonder if his sol does not 'advise' him against this sort of deception?.... or... is he also lying to her? Is he SO arrogant that he thinks he can 'do whatever he likes' and get away with it? I have to admit... if it had not been for finding this wonderlful site.. I would have still have been extremely niave about this whole divorce process... and I can't help but wonder if he is far more niave than me now... even though he's been divorced twice before.. although those divorces were very straightforward, in that... there was very little money and no property to 'fight over'... plus, they were much shorter marriages... As my sol said also.... it doesn't matter whether he has gambled/lost/spent/hidden this money... the fact is... it WAS there.... Thanks again Karen X |
