Today's feeling = So-so
Had discussions with the X2B yesterday about the financial side which were a bit strained. also sorted separate bank and mobile phone accounts. Still a bit surreal to me if I'm honest.
Then in the evening I had a bad time. I think the poor financial situation that we will both be in finally became real and I had a mild panic attack. I say mild because I've not had one before so don't really know what they are supposed to feel like. Thanksfully, X2B and I talked a few more things through and I felt a bit better.
Sleep still broken but at least I am finding it easier to fall asleep. Still keep waking up during the night though.
Sent her an email this morning detailing all the financials as I see them and explaining what I think we should do regarding the asset split. I explained that she has in fact earned her 50% as part of the marriage process and I think she accepts that now. I believe she is feeling guilty and therefore does not want to take any money because she thinks it's her "fault".
I don't. It takes two to make a marriage and two to break it (sometimes three but we're not in that position, thankfully). So, we've agreed to discuss the financials over the weekend when the small person is at a friends house. Hopefully, we'll be able to come to an agreement with as little upset and anger as possible.
During the conversation about what I'd written, it became apparent that both of us are looking at the financial situation from the others point of view. Another surreal situation. She is saying that it's not fair on me that she get's so much and I am saying that she must have her fair share. Role reversal or what?!?!?!

What you think is a nice secure financial future is suddenly exploded, all gone in a puff of smoke, no wonder we dont sleep at night. Its interesting to think that we may all be laying awake at night all on our own, thinking everybody else is fast asleep. | |

Ah yes, but ours wasn't a nice secure financial future. We don't have a house (we rent), we have about £15k savings, £5k cash, no pensions to speak of and maybe £7k other assets (cars and the like). I've not known for some years where all my wages go. When we left the UK 5 years ago we had about £50k from the house sale. No idea where that's gone. So I always knew it I was going to get off my ar$e and earn shedloads contracing but at least we would be doing it as a family. I think the thing that hit me was that I will be doing it on my own. Scary. |
