Hi Petal - see if you can manage without the alcohol, I have heard that it can make it difficult to sleep. Trouble is, if you are like me, you just go over and over the same things in your head and I dont know how to remedy that. Do you do any exercise? Take up something, in a group would be best. |

Hi Petal I agree with Fio, avoid the alcohol, coffee etc. Apparently warm milk helps but cant confirm that as i never has a taste for it. I think you can train yourself to cut the bad stuff otut of your head and concentrate on good stuff. Ive always done this and it does work most of the time. I try to think of really nice things, like winning the lottery or going on holiday. My youngest reminded me on Mon night that I gave him the same technique except with him he was plaing in the FA cup or beating Tigger Woods in golf. Quite often he falls asleep before he gets to the good bits. Hope something works for you. Take care. |

Hi Petal, Welcome to my world. I find that no amount of alchohol can get me through the night these days. I tend to go to bed around 11 and then wake up at 4.00. The tv is crap at that time, so end up doing "jobs". Have been to docs, who is sympathetic, but won't prescribe tamazapan. Oh well, east the ironing gets done. Mike |

Agree with all. Cut out the alcohol and caffeine as both don't aid sleep. If you drink a lot of coffee at the moment (say more than 3 large cups) then cut down over a period of days otherwise you will get withdrawal headaches. Also, try and drink most of your intake before 4pm and only have low quantities after that. Don't drink within 1 1/2 hours of going to bed. Up the exercise, do more than 40 minutes of walking a day as 30 minutes doesn't break down some stuff or other that needs to be out of the way before your body really starts getting benefit. Or, and I personally like this idea the best, take up some form of full contact sport and smack the living stuff out of someone / something a few times a week. That definitely helps. The next thing may or may not be for you. I took up meditation a while back when I couldn't sleep and after a few weeks it helped a hell of a lot. Depends if you are open to the idea or not. I have also started studying Chi Kung but again, you have to be open to the idea. The last thing will depend on the practicalities of your situation and your personal preferences. I find having the TV on very low volume when in bed, so you can just about hear it, helps. For me, this make my brain focus on the TV programme and stop thinking about all the sh!t that's happening at the moment. This may or may not work for you. |
