I have lately seen great changes happening at wiki and felt moved to blog about it's importance in my life.
I, like most people here, joined Wiki at one of , if not THE, worst periods of my life. And like most of the people here, I have never underestimated the effect it has had on my recovery. In fact, I would say it has been largely responsible for that recovery.
The advice of Redoctober when I first blogged was sobering, very correct and absolutely the right course to follow. Without that I may have done something I regretted and hurt people. Thanx Red xx.
The social life I rediscovered I could have, again down to Wikipeeps. I have never laughed so much as I do now, there is a sort of wikigiggle that infects us all periodically, and you can't stop it, so why try?
The support of people when I realised I was going to be very down for a few days was unbelievable. Yet I believed in it because it came through Wiki. A force to be reckoned with in fact.
And yet as I now feel recovered enough to be facing the world again on my own terms, I know that I will never be able to express the thanks I feel for the use of such a supportive, helpful and social tool as Wiki.
I will take my chat into other chat rooms, I will take my advice from some other sites, (after all Wiki is not the place to learn to change a plug! ) and I will carry my new Best Friends everywhere in my heart. Forever.
But on a pedastal I will place Wiki, with it's advice, love and support. It's need to help both the older and more established people and the absolute need to keep pride of place for the Newby, who is the lost soul of our situation. They need to be nurtured, protected and loved.
I was that Newby once, and will always try to help the next for what goes around comes around. Because I was helped, I will pay it forward.
This is what Wiki means to me.
Thank You Ian.

Tarnlass, It was very thoughtful of you to post such a lovely blog. Mr Wiki is blushing as he types. Wiki has its challenges, it is not always easy to keep everyone happy, but as long as each person takes something positive from Wiki then I think we can afford a smile - knowing that we are all contributing to making a difference. |
