While Standing at a Crossroads!Posted by IKNOWNOW in poetry poems, feeling down |
I found this poem today, think we have all been here at some point.
So many decisions and choices were taken from me in my marriage that learning to make the right choice which may affect mine and the children's future can sometimes appear daunting.
I think sometimes I put up unecessary barriers, because previously I have needed them to protect my feelings. I now realise that I do have to embrace my life and its opportunities otherwise before I know it, life will have passed me by.
These last few weeks, mainly since wiki London, have been quite reflective for me. So this poem makes a lot of sense to me at the moment.
I just need to choose my destiny.

The Road Less Traveled by Kit McCallum
| How often we must bear the challenges of life; The endless roller coaster between happiness and sorrow; The constant ups and downs of daily strife. And always the question remains .... why? Life is not an easy road for most; It twists and turns with many forks in the road, Although always, and inevitably, we are given a choice ... Do we turn to the right ... or the left? Do we take the high road ... or the low road? Do we take the easy path ... or the difficult one? Decisions are not easy for those struggling for direction ... And sometimes the many choices and signs become overwhelming. While standing at a crossroads in life, The urge is to take the most comfortable path; The road with least resistance ... The shortest or most traveled route. And yet, if we've been down that comfortable road before; Have gleaned its lessons in life, and learned from our experiences; Do we yet again follow the known? Or does our destiny lie in another direction? The fear of the road less traveled is tangible and all too real; It manifests itself in many ways, And tends to cloud the issues that might otherwise be clear. It is in these times of confusion, That we must seek peace and solitude; Time to contemplate on our life, Our experiences and our choices past; Time to look back, and reflect on what we have learned Without fear or confusion. For only each of us knows our own personal thoughts; Our unique past and personal history; The experiences that brought us to the crossroads we now face. We can always learn a small degree from others experiences, And yet ... no one person can walk in our shoes, Others know not, the trials and tribulations faced in private ... For each is individual ... unique ... and personal. And that is why ... while standing at a crossroads, Only "we" can formulate the decision for ourselves; The true direction that lies within; The choices we must deliberate on with clarity and wisdom. For it is only through personal reflection, That we can now choose our destiny; ... Our next adventure; ... And the future we will embrace. |

The trouble is everytime I have been at the crossroads I always seem to take the wrong turn. I always seem to take the road that leads to a slippery slope. I think I need to stand there for a bit longer, looking at the sign's and trying to see what's around the corner before I drive down the road. What we need is a ''tomtom'' of love, one that knows the way and can guide us if we become lost but until then I wish you all take the correct path. |

Sarah, very thought provoking. I agree with the personal reflection helping with decision making. I am also certain that without a plan you cannot make the decision. Without knowing what you want or where you are going there is no way that you can get there and so often the wrong decisions will be made. Once you have answered that problem the rest becomes a little easier. Pheonix, the tomtom only works if you tell it where to go. Bert. |

Sarah, So hard to make those important decisions in divorce as it's life changing decisions. Yes we are at a crossroads wondering where to turn or for some of us been there and took a turn. Let's hope that the ones still wondering like myself will take the right turn. And the ones who took the wrong turn will be re-directed onto the right road. Divorce is now so much the norm but as the poem says each one of us is unique in our experiences of life and our personal tribulations. That is what we have to face on our own. What went wrong, learn from that and decide the best route to take. Anna.xxx |

I know what you mean about putting up barriers to protect your feelings because in the past you have had to do it. Someone told me today that I was defensive, I would say that was too simplistic and wary is what I am. Life's lessons have taught me to be that way and that is not a bad thing. I too am at the crossroads, my trouble is my sense of direction is really terrible. I have decided to stay at the crossroads til I have read the map and have enough information to make a good decision, then I will ignore it all and go with the gut feeling at the pit of my stomach. When you have been robbed of choices it is hard to trust your own judgement. I am learning to trust mine and I hope you learn to trust yours too. Best wishes Shelia X |
