I have just received my solicitor's bill and I have been ignoring the amounting money I owe them and it is more than I thought. I have had steam coming out of my ears. Had my ex not been such an intransigent and stubborn(words fail me at this point) person, my bill and his, would be much lower. After almost spontaneously combusting with rage and a good cry I thought so what? What price freedom?
This bill is what is has cost me to be free of this man and it is money well spent. I have, in effect, bought my freedom. I must admit I felt like I had some sort of emotional flu, I felt so awful for at least a year, and now, apart from the very occasional wobbly day I feel great. I am hoping feeling great will attract great things to happen to me. I can only hope and put my best foot forward and my cheekiest smile.
It is up to me to make sure that this divorce is the best thing that I could ever have bought myself. It has to be, the alternative does not bear thinking about.
Love to all
Shelia X

Shelia, A mortgage is like a millstone around your neck. Your solicitors bill was to remove a millstone from around your neck. Please remember that ,when you are eating your pot noodle or getting a free soup handout down at the local Salvation Army. Enjoy your freedom.... Mike x |

Shelia, I was only thinking the other day how unjust it is to have to pay to gain freedom of the sort we have found but we now owe it to ourselves to make the most of life and see the cost of our divorces as an investment in our bright futures. Take care xx Sarah xx |

I never go without anything or miss out on an opportunity to travel or shop or meet up with friends. Best wishes Lyndamac xx |

hi Sheila, I was very angry and upset that my stbx wanted me to pay the costs (after all the reasons he quoted for divorce were ludicrous, he just had £ signs in his eyes and wanted money from the house and other assets). After some thought and letters between solicitors I decided that I would agree to pay half. I cant really afford it but like you I now feel it will be worth it to get the divorce rolling and sever ties with him. Unfortunately it will not be the only financial losses cos the settlement will be mainly on my side as the higher earner, but I have now come to terms with this. I no longer have any feelings for him (good or bad) just indifference so even if I end up penniless (even at my age) it will be worth not having to have to see or speak to him. Good luck with your future. ~Enjoy your freedom......I intend to. Lioness |
