It's 3.15 in the morning. I ought to have gone to bed before midnight. There was too much to do. Now, if I go to sleep, I might miss the alarm. And I absolutely have to get up in the morning. Insomnia would be better. Sleep would be better still.
My eyes feel as though they're coated in sawdust. My skin prickles. Wine would be good but it might send me to sleep. Coffee could send me spiralling out of control.
I wonder if there are ways to go to sleep and ensure I wake up in two hours. How much do I have to do first? Washing up - there's always washing up. If it weren't for the non-stop rain I could put rubbish in the dustbin. I still could. It never stops raining. Never.
The World Service babbles on - something about village carvers and the Simpsons.
I'm so tired I'm almost beyond worry.
All over the world children are forcing themselves into wakefulness as they read the last Harry Potter. If I lay down neither Snape nor Voldemort could keep me awake.
I mustn't lie down.
Time for more washing up ...

I felt for you. I've had trouble sleeping too. It's all new to me. Do the feelings ever ease?(Rhetorical I guess). For what it's worth you did the right thing not lying in bed all night trying to force yourself to sleep. Just don't drive next day! Also I think you got the better deal: trying to sleep versus staying awake for Hypey Potter! |
