Today was a good day, I had a phone call from the womens refuge asking for help.
A lovely lady and her 4 children had to leave their home as the husband after being in a car accident had mental problems.
While she was out, he had gone through each room in the house and ripped, slashed and damaged every piece of furniture, he also slashed all the childrens and her clothes.
She fled with the children and the clothes they stood up in.
I have had numerous ladies over the years from the refuge and find that helping them gives me great joy and a sense of purpose.
I talked to the lady and showed her round a house, after she told me her circumstances I felt I had to do something.
I took her round to my daughters old home, it is a lovely house 4 bed, double bay victorian terrace.
She loved the house but was upset and worried about how she could afford furniture etc.
I was hoping to move into a smaller house shortly but because of illness have been unable to.
I had beds, sofa's, range cooker, fridge freezer even bedding everything i would need down to knives and forks ready for my move.
This poor women and her daughter were crying at the thought of having a roof over their heads and somewhere safe to stay.
She went back to her old house to see if there was anything to salvage, apart from a few clothes there was nothing.
She did however find her little dog, she and the children were so pleased, the niebours had found her little dog who had run out of the house when he husband was destroying the place.
I told her there was not a problem with her having her dog and was so pleased she had got him as it would help her and her family having him there with them.
I handed her the keys, all the furniture and everything else has been moved into the house, she needed it far more than I do.
I gave her a hug as she was crying, the relief was so plain to see on her face, I know being a mum, how difficult life can be and how much you want to save your children from the pain, being a mum means you should be able to make things better.
Today she did that for her children, I had the privilege of helping.
Seeing the smiles is so truly wonderful, it was not me that gave today but her and her children, they gave me that wonderful feeling of joy, hope and happiness.
I always believe that one small act of kindness can grow and lighten not only one persons life but as in this case five, they in turn might offer the same at some point in theres.
What more could you ask for in a day.
