I contacted our old independent financial advisor over the weekend and asked if she could go over our pension info and give me some advice. She 1st gave us advice when my stbx was taking redundancy around 13 yrs ago, and she continued to do his 'books' when he set up in business. So, I reckon he must trust her too.
I went round to see her after work today. I called in home to pick up the details, to find a letter from scumbag waiting-at least this time he had forked out for a stamp, and posted it!! I decided not to open it, as he never has a positive effect on my state of mind these days!!
Anyway, the FA looked at the figures and wrote down lots of numbers-not my strong point!! She then simplified it to my level. She came to the conclusion that if I call in my various life policies, I should be able to offer to pay stbxs debts ( as a sweetener) offer him £10,000, and I would be entitled to keep our fmh but not touch his pension. My mortgage payments will stay at £300 pcm and not rise to the predicted £800 as estimated on my stbxs suggestion and the house would be paid off in 10 yrs at the most, not the 15 if we do as scumbag suggests. I could even afford to overpay to shorten the term.
She even wrote down some suggestions for scumbag ie if he becomes unemployed he can now claim his pension as he is 52-and the value of this. I think she was being really fair-tho I doubt scumbag will see this.
When I got home, I opened the letter-scumbag had written his financial proposals down-needless to say they were nothing like my FAs. He thinks the contents of our house are worth £20,000!!! Welcome to Buckingham Palace!!
FA rang me later to say she had forgotten to take some details into account, and passed these on to me. I read her scumbags suggestions-she found them amusing!! She suggested I offer him the total contents, as I will definitely be able to refurnish our 4bed semi for a lot less than £20,000, or get a valuer to come in-she had been offered £1,000 for the total contents of her Mothers house last year!! I can then let him have their figure.
I wonder what he is going to make of this advice-he certainly trusted her when we were a couple-somehow, I don't think he will be impressed, but for a few hours I am at peace!!

| Ha - very good Donnylass, that should go down like a rat sandwich. You never know FA may have read him well and the attraction of getting rid of his debts might just swing it for you and whilst still in the honeymoon phase with the new squeeze, he might think his future is set. If you pull it off you could end up with it all being concluded in record time - hope it comes off, keep us posted !! Rasherx | ||
