Cyber Stalking

HI, I am convinced that the STBX is reading stuff I do on the family computer. As I have learned, it would be possible for him to use the computer without a need for passwords (his knowledge is greater than mine)

On Wiki - Even though I blank out the username and untick the box to forget my password for wiki, the username always pops up in the list. Can this be stopped or do I have to blank out all my posts in case he checks them?

I would have trouble proving he is reading everything, but I know there is a backup link to a harddrive, then to his laptop (password protected).

What can I do to protect myself? He says he will move out of the family home at the end of March. He also says the computer is not legal solely mine (true, it was bought jointly). Can anyone help or make suggestions? Supercali xx

You need to delete your cookies after every single time you use the computer.

You should also delete the history after each use too.

Once you have deleted your cookies (and so erased the saved Wikivorce password) you may then consider using the "Private Browsing" option in your browser.

All three main browsers have a private browsing option:

Firefox: Tools > Start Private Browsing

IE: Safety > InPrivate Browsing

Chrome: Spanner Icon > New Incognito Window

This will prevent new cookies being stored and also prevent any history of your browsing being stored.

I'm lazy & sometimes I forget to clean something. So I use CCleaner ("Crap Cleaner"), a free software tool that blows away temp files, cookies, last viewed files, history, and more. http://www.ccleaner.com/.
Run it after any use to keep your computer nice and tidy (& pry safe) without having to remember what to delete.

Also - as I mentioned to somebody the other night, make sure you've also run some spyware detection to make sure he doesn't have a sniffer installed that collects passwords, chat sessions, keystrokes, etc. A good one (not free though) is Spy Sweeper by Webroot,

(If he's really stealthy though, he could come in and work around Spy Sweeper by telling it to always ignore certain programs, so, your mileage may vary.)
