First visit to a solicitors!

Tomorrow morning I have my first ever meeting with a solicitor!
Any tips? I want to discuss a formal separation and/or divorce from my husband of 21 years! I've no idea what to do or my rights but know it's ended - he's been advertising himself as 'separated' on the Internet and has recently started dating someone - but he still lives with me and our children!

I think if I were to give you any advice about a trip to a solicitors office it would be not to spend too much time talking to a solicitor.

If you want a divorce and there aren't too many financial assets involved then you would be best off to do it yourself with the help of online advice.

If you have financial issues then before you go to a solicitor then in your circumstance I would post up your details on this forum.

Include your respective ages, length of marriage, children if any and their ages, assets including any house less any mortgage, the mortgage type (interest only or capital and repayment) and your estimate of the capital left after a sale,

any other assets such as savings or endowments

any pensions in either parties names

any debts other than mortgage and whose name they are held in

any liabilities in the way of maintenance to previous relationships

including the income of both parties and whether each or either are employed or self employed

any disabilities of either parties or any disabilities of children

The two key ones might be how can I get divorced as quickly as possible, and what is the likley financial settlement going to be.
and you likley need to have some personal details to had, like outstanding mortgage, incomes, ages of you and kids etc.
