In my case I have yet to decide on a solicitor as yet but she is streets ahead and seems in contact with them every day... racking the bill up no doubt.
She implies I will have to pay for it anyway so why should she stop??

You have to make a distinction between, on the one hand, costs in connection with presentation of the petition, mainly the Court fee, and the costs of subsequent financial proceedings.

It is not uncommon for the petitioner to claim costs in relation to the petition where the divorce is ­base­d on adultery or unreasonable behaviour and frankly the sums involved are relatively modest and it's hardly worth arguing about it.

But cosrs in financial proceedings can easily run into five figures and the rule here is that costs are awarded only very rarely.

And... Dont believe everything your STBX tells you. What may happen is that she claims all or part of the costs for the divorce. Which I think is £340. But I think its gone up a bit. But compared to solicitors costs, thats trivial. Its unlikely that you would have to pay her solicitors costs. I have never heard of this before. Each person pay's there own legal costs. She will know this anyway. And she is just winding you up. This is common in divorce. C.
