You have to make a distinction between, on the one hand, costs in
connection with presentation of the
petition, mainly the Court fee, and the costs of
subsequent financial proceedings.
It is not uncommon for the
petitioner to claim costs in relation to the
petition where the divorce is based on
adultery or unreasonable behaviour and frankly the sums
involved are relatively modest and it's hardly worth arguing about it.
But cosrs in financial proceedings can easily run into five
figures and the rule here is that costs are awarded only very rarely.
