Trying to get father to have contact with children

Recently divorvced, 3 children . Ex in relationship with new partner with 2 children. He's taken on her children as his own, and really only wishes to see his children when its convenient for them (has been highly irregular for past 14 months, and NO contact for past 4). The children obviously ask about hime and desparate to see him. He refuses mediation. What can I do?

I don't have an answer, but here are some suggestions...

It might be your ex can't separate negative feelings he has for you from his children, sometimes bitterness can get a hold of you. Or, maybe he feels his parenting is not needed or valued? Perhaps he misses his kids and mourns their absence but just feels hopeless about the situation?

I guess one option might be to phone him, ask if you can meet to have a chat. Talk things through. Your divorce is quite recent so wounds will still be fresh but the quicker you act the easier things will be I think.

How old are your children? If emotions are still running high between you and your ex could you maybe encourage your children to call their dad and try to arrange something between themselves? I know it should be dad making the effort with his own children, but maybe if he could understand that THEY really do want to see him, then it might be the kick he needs to get his priorities straight.
