Slow Cooker £20 wilkinsons 6 Months, 1 Week ago
|
|
The metro ran a piece on £200 slow cookers. Wilkinsons are knocking them
out for £20. The idea is that slow cooking tenderises cheap cuts of meat.
You chop up your braising steak, throw in some stock, some seaconal veg put
the lid on turn the switch and it slow cooks while your out slaving for the
system. You get home, wet and misrable and behold comfort food. Get slow
cooking reciepies off the web, cheap veg off the market and cheap meat off
the butcher and everyones a winner. I've used mine about 6 times in the
last week and it rules. Leftovers go in the foil takeaway containers from
the pound shop so I've stopped eating rubbish. Give it a go. The cookers
are electric. Good luck

Slow cookers are fab. I bought my Crock Pot for about the same price as
the ones Patrick mentions. They are so easy to use, and meals work out
cheaper too.

Slightly off topic, may I recommend the Remoska cooking unit? Lakeland
supply them, and they are excellent - the element is in the lid, and you
can do just about anything in them, including casseroles, roasts and
cakes.
Although a good cook, here in France I wouldn't be
without mine - it's brilliant, and saves using a normal oven. (During the
winter I use a woodburning range, so the Remoska is usually put away until
the Spring).

For working parents especially, a slow cooker is a godsend. I swear by mine
all through the winter. I made Lamb Tagine last night, with a cheap cut of
shoulder and it is absolutely delicious! The meat is "falling off the bone"
as we cook's say! And no Mitchum there is not enough for the 5,000 this
time! You can pick up a Tesco's own slow cooker for about a tenner!
You can't beat that!
Take care for now FoS x
