Hi Suzanne,
I was a nervous wreck before my
mediation, but it wasn't so bad! The first
meeting was quite short, I just told her my stance on finances and she told
me what to expect. She told me she had to be impartial and that we could
have separate meetings if I felt under threat of violence (although I
believe this costs more).
The second meeting was very helpful -
my stbx and I had been communicating through emails and
solicitors, which conveyed more animosity
than there actually was. With the mediator present, it was easier to talk
without arguing and we managed to reach an agreement with just one more
session.
It's in both your interests to reach an agreement
sooner rather than later, so hopefully he'll be willing to compromise.
You'll both need to go through financial disclosure, which should be
explained to you in the first or second meeting.
Good luck and
don't worry too much!
