Oh right my misunderstanding. OK so splitting the house 50/50 you get £65k each which he keeps his half and you pay £80k debts? So he ends up with £65k and you end up with -£15k?? That certainly doesn't seem fair to me even if you get to keep say £30k compensation he has come off MUCH better.

If I were you I would be looking to pay the debts off from the house equity, and then split what is left 50/50.

And THEN talk about what happens to your your compensation. Let him justify why he should have a share of it.
