House removals

I only moved house in February, since then have split with partner of 14 years, now looking to move into a rented place as I don't want to stay in the joint home.

We had always done our own packing and moving, but emotionally this time I can't face it. Has anyone used a removal firm, and if so what is a rough estimate as to how much it will cost (I know, how long is a piece of string! but I really just want a general idea). Also has anyone used a packing service (same reason). I would like to be able to go out for the day and come back to find it is all done.

I can get an online quote but they all ask for contact details and I don't want to be pressured by them at the moment.

Most removal companies understand that moving and packing is a very stressful thing and don't tend to put pressure on their customers.

The best thing to do is to contact 2 or 3 local companies and ask them for a quote - they usually need to come round to the house to see what's what and so they can give you a more accurate figure.

If you cant face doing this on your own (and I understand why) then either ask an understanding friend to be with you, or to deal with the company on her own while you go and have a coffee somewhere. They shouldn't be in the house any longer than 30 mins to assess the furniture and packing materials required.

Hi Ruby, thanks for advice. yes you're right I do need to get some proper quotes, I was just wondering (having no idea of these things) if it's likely to be a few hundred pounds, or a lot more (in which case there's no point me getting quotes lol) But yes I will get some when I feel more up to it x
