People tend to make threats when they feel backed into a corner or they
are angry. Anger isn't unusual when relationships breakdown. Often anger
is a secondary emotion to primary feelings of hurt and fear. The most
common threats are to take the children off each other or withhold
finances.
Fathers are at a disadvantage because of working
practices. Most men (about 90%) with dependent children work in full time
inflexible jobs, and fathers work longer hours than any other group of
men. On the other hand, most women with dependent children don't work or
work in lower paid part and/or flexible jobs to fit around commitments to
children. The biggest obstacle to shared care 50:50 after parents separate
is the absence of shared care 50:50 before
separation. See;
http://www.dad.info/work/can-you-share-work-and-kids-in-the-u
k/ You can claim CB for one of your children and
if your ex disagrees the DWP will carry out an investigation. They will
check the address the child is registered with
school and GP etc. If you work 40- 50
hours a week there might be a problem establishing that you are providing
equal day to day care unless your ex also works long full time hours.
