Adding my maiden name by deed poll 5 Months ago
|
|
My ex is about to re marry in 3 wks time, we were only officially divorced
last week.
I am wondering if its possible to add my maiden name
as a middle/ double barrel name for the children.
Only reason i
ask is i dont like the fact exs wife to be will share the same name as my
children. I dont want to take the childrens fathers name away as that is
who they are. I just dont like how she will also be part of my childrens
name but she never made them.
So for example instead of joe
bloggs could i by deed poll use joe smith bloggs?
Thanks for any
advice.

Any change of name for the children will require the consent of those who
have Parental Responsibility.
If he objects (and is
likely to), then you would need to apply to Court for the name change and
be able to prove that a name change is in the best interests of the child
(difficult to do).

As much as I sympathise with how hard this must be, please don't get caught
up in this name change thing.
I have never changed my name and
so have never had the same surname as my children (who both have different
surnames). I have three sister-in-laws with the same surname as me but
we are not biologically related.
Do you know for sure that the
new wife will take his name? I am still amazed in this day and age that
women change their surnames on marriage.

Hi
This is about your feelings about your ex's future wife, not
about what is best for your children. It must be very difficult that he is
moving on and that your children will be part of a new family from which
you are excluded. BUT changing their names isn't going to change that. I
do understand - my sons were wrapping up a present for their father's gf
and her children yesterday and it was v. painful for me. But this woman
and her children are a fixture with their father so no point in me
inflicting my bitterness on my sons who find the situation hard enough.
You didn't feel the need to give them your maiden name when they
were born. What has changed is that their father is about to remarry.
I don't know what your surname is of course, but in my case, my
maiden name is ordinary and although I use it as a 3rd forename myself, I
wouldn't bother about adding it to my sons' name. In any case their
surname - my married name - is even more ordinary and boring. If I had an
interesting or unusual maiden name I might want to hand it on.

I, too, find this very hard. But I like to look at it this way. How
much harder is it for the new wife to know that she is the SECOND Mrs
Bloggs and that the original Mrs Bloggs is still around and that the
original Bloggs children are there. She and her offspring will always be
second!

Actually ive been thinking an awful lot about the replys and stuff and Yes
i am going to ask his concent ( not sure ill get it! ) but whats in a name
people ask - to me an awful lot - when we were married we all were 'Joe
Bloggs' He decided to leave us and we are stuck with his name to whom he
can quite happily share with others, so to that because we are now a unit
of 3, i am going to add my maiden name to all of our names so we will be
'Joe Smith Bloggs'
