tax credits......do they know ANYTHING?

Eldest daughter left 6th form in June and also turned 18.
I phoned tax credits and told them and I also said she'd applied for another course but we wouldnt know til July / Aug if she'd got on it.
Woman on phone said she would stop tax creds for daughter at present and if we found out that she had got on the course then to call back and daughters tax credits would be reinstated and backdated.
Yesterday, to our delight we got the letter that daughters on the course!
Called tax credits to be told we cant get tax credits for her til September...I said I'd be told to call back, backdated blah blah and they said "but she left education in June"..I said "but we've been waiting to hear about course"...
I said I was supporting daughter since June with no help as she has no job etc.
Surely if this course was applied for prior her leaving 6th form and her new course starts in September shes still classed as a dependant and I should be getting something for her?

My daughter left 6th form in June and is going to uni (if she gets the results of course) in September. I was informed that tax credits get paid until September, i.e. when child benefit ceases.

Just (funny!) checked for you.

Ends 31st August if child going to uni.
Ends last day of term or last exam if child not going on to uni.
Doesn't end if child going only to college (i.e. not above A levels).

So they should backdate it for your daughter.

Just off the phone to tax credits and they're reinstating daughter on my claim and backdating.
The woman said she didnt know why the person I spoke to the other day said I'd have to wait til September.
Well thats one thing off my mind!
